Katokye

John Katokye is one of the foremost practitioners of ekyeshongoro, an improvised and unaccompanied singing tradition of the Banyankore and Bahororo peoples of Western Uganda. He dedicated his life to these traditional songs from childhood, and in 2025 released Obuhangwa bwa Banyankore na Bahororo on the Ugandan label Nyege Nyege Tapes, bringing his work to a global audience.
